After a seven-year hiatus, the Superintendent Conference returned to Hawaii, bringing together nearly 100 public works and transportation professionals from across the state. I expected to hear about projects, budgets, and infrastructure. Instead, what stayed with me were the stories and the clear emotional toll of helping communities recover from the recent Kona low events. My first official event as HAPI’s Executive Director offered an inspiring introduction to Hawaii’s transportation community and a powerful reminder of the people behind the work.
